lexicology



Lexicology is the part of linguistics which studies word. This may include their nature and function as symbol, their meaning, the relationship of their meaning to epistemology  in general, and the rules of their composition from smaller elements (morphemes  such as the English -ed marker for past or un- for negation; and phonemes  as basic sound units).
Parts and areas of lexicology

1.    Part of lexicology: General lexicology and Special lexicology.
2.   Areas of lexicology: Historical, Descriptive, Comparative, Contrastive, Combinatorial and  Applied lexicology.
 
Lexical units:
1.    Morphemes
2.   Words
3.   Word-groups
4.   Phraseological units

Varieties of word:
1.    The word is two facet unit processing both form and content or soundform and meaning. Neither can exist without the other
2.   Paradigm:  the system showing a word in all its word-forms
3.   Word-forms: grammatical forms of words
4.   Lexico-semantic variant:  the word in one of its meaning
